Welcome to Pre Kindergarten!

Pre Kindergarten Curriculum

The A Beka curriculum is used all year long with a few supplemental materials. These materials enrich the learning experience of the students. It is my ultimate goal to help all of my students learn and have fun doing so. I look forward to teaching your child and watching them grow.

-Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Doyle and Mrs. Peschel

Bible

Our Bible curriculum teaches that God is caring and mighty. There are stories about regular people that God used in ways that made them heroes. We will cover miracles of Jesus. We will also be memorizing scriptures every few weeks.

Language Development

With our language curriculum the children will develop listening and speaking skills. They will be able to expand answers to review question asked to check comprehension.

Alphabet/Phonics

We will review letter sounds and begin learning short/long vowel sounds, simple consonant sounds, blending of consonant/vowel sounds, and words containing one and two vowel sounds. Our workbooks will help reinforce sounds taught at each step of the way. We will also learn to write each letter in lower and upper case with our writing book and tablet.

Math

In Pre K some of the things learned in math will be: colors, compare contrast, numbers recognition, opposites, same and different, sequencing, and shapes.

Art and Science

We will do many projects with paint, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, feathers, and other fun media that you will want to keep forever. We will have many science themed lessons throughout the year along with science lab on every Thursday.

Music/P.E.

Music will also be on Wednesdays. The students will learn fun songs and movements to go with them. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will be our P.E. days. ***Please have your little one come to school on these days in tennis shoes.

Behavior Management

In our Pre Kindergarten classroom I will be using different color file folders and clothes pins with the children’s names on them as behavior accountability tools. Each clip change has a consequence. The colors and consequences are as follows:

  • The green file folder is the top color. This means they have had an outstanding day! They have had no clip moves or behavior consequences.
    • I will give each student one verbal warning. If I need to correct their behavior another time, their clip will be moved down the green file folder closer to the blue folder.
  • Clips will be moved to the blue file folder after three corrections of their behavior. They receive one clip change for the day. If I have to move their clip to blue, the consequence will be a talk with the teacher at the time of the correction.
    • If I need to correct their behavior another time, their clip will be moved down the blue file folder closer to the yellow folder.
  • Clips will be moved to the yellow file folder after five corrections of their behavior. They will receive a few minutes off recess or free play time as a consequence.
    • If I need to correct their behavior another time, their clip will be moved down the blue file folder closer to the red folder.
  • Clips will be moved to the red file folder after seven corrections of their behavior. If they have to move their clip to the red, the consequence will be a phone call to parents or a visit to Mrs. Oglesby.

At the end of every week (Fridays) those who have been on green all week will get a trip to our special treasure box! Those that may have had trouble staying on green throughout the week can also receive a visit to the treasure box after they get five stickers on their behavior chart, which are given for those who stay on green daily.
